The Oracle Takes to Paris Fashion Week 2012

Deep in the midst of Paris; darkness descended upon sun deprived rooms, lit only with studio lights and the glimmering eyes of hopeful fashion enthusiasts. At first glance, these were ordinarily extraordinary clothing exhibitions. Yet in the far, far right-sided corner of each, sat an inconspicuous and humble looking man; accompanied by a staff while hidden by shadows.

The Oracle was present.

Although it was unfortunate that designers and models alike were unaware of the noble presence they showcased before, it was perhaps necessary. For if the Oracle was spotted, heads would have turned towards him rather than the clothing celebrated on stage; while those on the catwalk would most definitely have performed miserably, losing all composure at the sight of his immensity.

And so it was how it had to be.

There were moments when the Oracle smiled, albeit unobtrusively. This was when Bottega Veneta and Tefano Pilati’s Yves Saint Laurent celebrated their works. Both provoked a look that signified more approval than pleasure. The latter’s clothing range – aside from the odd touch of grey – was stringently coloured in black and white, with a suggestive inclination towards leather.

A Happier Day

If YSL and Bottega are to be pleased at enjoying some level of good opinion from the Oracle, than it is nothing like the utter elation Jean Paul Gaultier and Louis Vuitton undeniably felt when rumours circulating afterwards suggested the sage was elastically enthusiastic upon viewing their apparel.

At Gaultier’s work in particular: how could he not be? Brick prints, lustrous tailoring, skirts that seems to want to kiss the floor and an edgy street New York-prohibition period vibe, complimented spectacularly by textured knitwear.

The Oracle stamped his staff down vigorously in admiration upon seeing this Gaultier piece.

It was during Gaultier’s showcase that the Oracle’s presence became known. While applauding a pair of fluorescent green trousers matched up with a camouflage coat, he allowed his enthusiasm to get the better of him and stood up in appreciation. This is a high honour indeed, however his cover was blown and thus he hastily made way towards the exit. It was rumoured that his nobleness was then on route to Louis Vuitton and this was confirmed by a statement issued by the Oracle himself the following morning:

“Yesterday, as many of you may know, I was present to judge Kim Jones’ second collection as director of Louis Vuitton. Inspired by the legendary illustrator Antonio Lopez and Paris from the seventies, the pieces were a sight to behold!”

The Oracle probably wore something very akin to this robe in his younger days. Although his known dislike of wearing silk – spurred by humility – means it would have been of a different material.

It is very likely that the Oracle was most impressed with the oriental looking silk evening pieces. These were of a similar style to what he would often wear with a beautiful Swiss watch – usually a Maitres du Temps craftwork – in Fu Ding.

Such attire displayed on the night, along with tan trenches and velvet couture undoubtedly left an impression.

In a rather vague conclusion on what the Oracle thought of Paris and the whole fashion week, the following words were pronounced:

“Familiarity is only appreciated in fashion when it is distinct; as repetition is disliked by the soul”.

Within seconds, as reporters were stuck pondering the meaning behind his words; a loud bang was heard, followed by a cloud of smoke.
